Davis Creek Pony Club Information

Pony Club is administered at the National, Regional and Local level entirely by volunteers.  They all love horses, love kids and really love seeing both together in harmony!  If you are between 4 to 21 years old and are horse crazy - then join the club! If you are older than 21, you can still be involved, get connected and make lots of new friends that share the same love of horses as you do!  Although you have to join before the year you turn 21, you can now stay in PC thru age 25.

Pony Clubs must follow the basic national and regional bylaws of Pony Club.  Beyond those basic rules though, each club can tailor their activities to what best fits their current members.  So always keep in mind, that if what the club is doing now isn't what you're looking for, you can get involved, volunteer, help make the club what you'd like it to be!

Pony Club doesn't offer riding lessons per se or provide horses to its members. However, Pony club will have mounted meetings and organize instructional clinics with both internal and external instructors.  Being a member of pony club will also give you opportunities to participate in clinics given by instructors known both nationally and internationally for their expertise in that equestrian sport!  Pony Club Festival at Kentucky Horse Park in July 2011 is a great example (only offered every 3 years but delayed an additional year due to the WEG 2010 at KHP).

Pony Club does provide instruction on horse care and assists in helping members learn to ride but doesn't meet often enough to replace regular riding instruction.  The emphasis is happy and healthy kids and horses. Even if you already have a great riding instructor, you can still benefit from club activities and learn all about how to care for your horse/pony.  Pony Club promotes good sportsmanship and helps each individual pony club member become an all around horseperson!

To be a fully participating member, you must either own or have access to a mare or gelding at least 5 years of age (no stallions of course due to their typical attitude with a group of horses).  You can still be an active member without a horse, but you of course must realize that not all activities will be available to you without a horse.  Some members lease a horse or share one with other members.  The horse/rider combination must also be a safe and sane pair to ensure the safety of the rider and other riders in the club.  Being able to provide or arrange for transportation for your horse or pony to mounted meetings, clinics, shows and rallies will significantly increase your benefits of being a member because you'll be able to participate more (but isn't a requirement).    This link to an article on the national pony club web site gives a great description for the PERFECT PONY CLUB MOUNT.

We are already making plans for 2009 - See the CALENDAR 2009 page off this web site.  We will have 2 Combined Test and Dressage Shows at Winfield Riding Club in 2009 (one in the spring on May 31st and one in the fall on Oct 11th).

For C1 and up rated members, there are many clinics offered by our USPC region.  See the CLINICS page for a list of these opportunities.
